Christmas Rock Albums

Jimi Hendrix
This five song maxi-single wasn't intended as a Christmas record. It is the result of Hendrix and the Band of Gypsies fooling around as they rehearsed for concerts at Filmore East during the 1969 holiday season. This won't be the first CD you run for when it's time to cue up the holiday music, but it is definitely worth having for its historical and entertainment value.
Moody Blues
The Moodies' orchestral backup is well suited to the sounds of the season. Songs range from traditional (White Christmas) to original (Don't Need a Reindeer) to a cover of John Lennon/Yoko Ono's Happy Xmas (War Is Over).
Steve Lukather
This 10-track compilation also features Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Steve Vai, and Edgar Winter lending their rock guitar virtuosity -- and on some tracks, their voices -- to traditional Christmas carols.

Winter Carols
Blackmore's Night

Ritchie Blackmore: ex-lead guitarist for Deep Purple and Rainbow.

Candice Night: ex-backup vocalist for Deep Purple and Rainbow

Blackmore's Night: progressive/folk rock band featuring Night as lead vocalist and lyricist, and Blackmore on anything with strings.

Blackmore and Night have been living together since 1991, engaged since 1994, and making music together as Blackmore's Night since 1997. Their holiday music blends rock and Renaissance.

Christmas Joy

The Ventures

Christmas on a surf board? Well, not really, but done with the Ventures' signature slide guitars, prominent percussion, and lots of reverb. Arrangements of traditional carols are pretty faithful to the orginals, with a liberal amount of 60s Surf Rock flavoring.
Various Artists
This is THE electric guitar holiday album: Jeff Beck, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Richie Sambora, and Steve Morse (among others) turn in some innovative and sometimes surprising arrangements of traditional Christmas carols.
Various Artists
Elton John, Bob Seger, The Moody Blues, Elvin Bishop, and Chuck Berry are examples of the eclectic mix of artists represented on this CD. There is a method to the madness -- it is a well rounded sampling of virtually every Classic Rock sub-genre.
Various Artists
Artists that didn't release Christmas albums did occasionally record holiday singles that wound up on compilations like this one. Styx, R.E.O. Speedwagon, Greg Lake (Emerson, Lake & Palmer) and Joe Walsh (Eagles) are among the rockers who tip a hat to the holiday season in this collection.
Various Artists
Another compilation, this one with a roster that includes Queen, The Kinks, Billy Squier, and Cheech & Chong. This album isn't exactly mellow, but it has a softer edge than you might expect given the artist roster.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
There's plenty of typical Skynyrd here -- Run Run Rudolph and Skynyrd Family but there are also a couple of suprises, like the sensitive, acoustic instrumental treatments of Greensleeves and Classical Christmas.

When You Dream

for me little lad

Lyrics to 'When you dream' - Stunt - Barenaked Ladies

With life just begun, my sleeping new son
Has eyes that roll back in his head
They flutter and dart, he slows down his heart
And pictures a world past his bed
Its hard to believe
As I watch you breathe
Your mind drifts and weaves

When you dream,
What do you dream about?
When you dream,
What do you dream about?
Do you dream about
Music or mathematics
Or planets too far for the eye?
Do you dream about
Jesus or quantum mechanics
Or angels who sing lullabies?

His fontanelle pulses with lives that hes lived
With memories hell learn to ignore
And when it is closed, he already knows
Hes forgotten all he knew before
But when sleep sets in
History begins
But the future will win

When you dream,
What do you dream about?
When you dream,
What do you dream about?
Are they colour or black and white,
Yiddish or english
Or languages not yet conceived?
Are they silent or boisterous?
Do you hear noises just
Loud enough to be perceived?
Do you hear del shannons runaway playing
On transistor radio waves?
With so little experience,
Your mind not yet cognizant
Are you wise beyond your few days?
When you dream,
What do you dream about?
When you dream,
What do you dream about?

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE - WHITE RABBIT LYRICS

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE - WHITE RABBIT LYRICS: "White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane
One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice
When she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
Has given you the call
Recall Alice
When she was just small

When men on the chessboard
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice
I think she'll know

When logic and proportion
Have fallen sloppy dead
And the White Knight is talking backwards
And the Red Queen's 'off with her head!'
Remember what the dormouse said:
'Feed your head
Feed your head
Feed your head'"

Breaks Co-Op

Breaks Co-op is a New Zealand band, formed in 1997, first through music company FMR and more recently with EMI.

The band members are Andy Lovegrove, Zane Lowe and Hamish Clark.

Zane and Hamish formed Breaks Co-Op in Auckland, releasing the electronic album Roofers in 1997 before they both left New Zealand to travel and pursue other interests. They both ended up in the UK where Zane has become a hugely successful Radio DJ and TV Presenter.

After several years hiatus, Zane and Hamish eventually started working on new material in 2004, recruiting Andy Lovegrove from artist/producers The Away Team after hearing a demo of him sing and deciding his was the voice born to sing their music.

Released last year in New Zealand, The Sound Inside has been a double-platinum selling hit, with lead single The Otherside the No.1 airplay hit of 2005 and winner of Song Of The Year at the NZ Music Awards.

The Co-op has also been touring for much of the last six months and has relocated to the UK where their album has been released by Parlophone. The live band has been going from strength to strength and gathering fans wherever it goes.

The live lineup is Andy Lovegrove on lead vocals and guitar, Rodney Fisher on vocals, lead guitar, mandolin and percussion, Rio Henopo on bass and vocals, Tom Atkinson on drums and Hamish Clark on turntables, samples and vocals.

Shure E3c, 14 Feb 2007
Reviewer: T. Edwards (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Before getting a pair of these I read quite a few reviews on them and some others in the Shure range, some Bose and Sennheiser ones. After having read them I decided to go for the E3c's and certainly don't regret it. There were a lot of reviews saying that the bass was very light on them, I haven't noticed that much, although it may be down to the music that I am listening to (Radiohead are great on these). The fit takes awhile to get used to although now that I am, I can shake my head as much as I can and they still wont fall out, so they are great for exercise. Also when wearing them you cannot hear a thing once the music starts (outside of the headphones) which is great. I highly recommend!

The gold standard for MP3 Players, 6 Oct 2006
Reviewer: C. E. B. Portman (London, London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've just upgraded from the Shure E2C, which are outclassed ergonomically, aesthetically and dynamically by the E3Cs. The sound is better; even richer clearer bass, glassy mid range and very crisp treble... with none of the aggro of having headphone wires running down your back, which is a real plus if you're trying to sleep on a plane. They're much easier to put on than the E2Cs and obtain and instant seal. Beautiful, tiny, light and very comfortable. The ease of use puts them above the others in the range and the difference in sound is indistinguishable to all but your dog. I rate them the best headphones for your iPod that money can buy.
